The trousers look right in the mirror, then pull when you step upward. Choosing from a standing image misses the movement the garment is intended for. Allow space and time for simple fitting actions. You need not imitate difficult terrain or stretch the fabric to its limit.
Assess waist and seat in motion
Fasten the trousers with their belt or intended adjustment. Sit on a stable bench and stand again. Notice whether the waist gaps substantially, slips or presses uncomfortably. Reposition once and repeat. A problem disappearing only through extreme tightening deserves another comparison.
Put one foot on a suitable low step. Identify pulling at the knee, hip or crotch. These differences help the fitter. A larger size can create room while changing other areas. Compare another cut if length and waist no longer work together afterwards.
Stretch fabrics appear in walking trousers, including models listed by VAUDE. Elasticity does not guarantee an appropriate cut. It should support movement rather than conceal a continually unsuitable fit.
Do not assess pockets only when empty
Put a harmless item in the pocket you intend to use. Sit and raise a leg again. Something at the thigh may occupy the space needed for movement. Consider another pocket layout or storage location.
Try access with the pack hip belt closed. A pocket accessible when standing alone may be concealed beneath it. Avoid carrying every heavy object in trousers merely because they provide many compartments. Equipment should serve the actions you actually perform.
Examine seams and reinforcements beneath belts and straps. Something flat without loading can behave differently in the full arrangement. Change one element and reassess to keep the cause understandable.
Check leg length with walking footwear
Put your intended shoes on. Walk, sit and place a foot on the step. Do not assess the hem only while standing straight. Notice whether it catches on footwear or rises enough during a step to make the combination unsuitable.
Before considering shortening, establish the hem construction. Adjusters, zips or particular seams may complicate alteration. Ask about a suitable length variant before cutting anything.
Choose trousers whose waist, movement and length work together. Another pocket or appealing color should not overrule a clear fit problem. The selection becomes understandable when each decision follows an action actually checked.
