The sleeve ends neatly at your wrist while standing. Reaching for the pack pulls it backward while the glove cuff shifts beneath it. Movement during fitting reveals these transitions early. Use the actual gloves rather than an arbitrary bulky substitute that will not accompany the outing.

Establish the intended cuff arrangement

Check whether the glove is intended over or beneath the jacket cuff. Not every combination works equally in both arrangements. Black Diamond distinguishes lightweight liners from other glove types, for example. Their limited thickness does not make every outer sleeve construction suitable automatically.

Wear the shirt and midlayer before assessing outerwear. A cuff already containing several fabric layers closes differently from one around a bare arm. Arrange everything once, then check movement.

Close hook-and-loop or other intended adjusters without maximum force. The cuff should adjust usefully. Little remaining overlap or excessive gathered material suggests reassessing the combination.

Reach forward and raise your arms

Reach ahead at chest height, raise your arms and take hold of a pack strap. Notice how far the sleeve moves and whether the planned overlap remains. Return to the starting position. Fabric should not require complete rearrangement after every action.

Compare both sides. A differently positioned glove or awkward fold can change the impression. Adjust that specific point first rather than immediately changing jacket size. If substantial pulling remains, compare cut and sleeve length.

Operate the cuffs while gloved too. Needing to remove the other glove each time is a handling restriction. It need not automatically rule the garment out, but should be a conscious choice.

Avoid losing items while changing

Open the sleeves adequately before removing gloves. Keep both together or put them directly in their assigned compartment. A glove left inside a sleeve can drop unnoticed when the jacket is removed later.

Afterwards, inspect closures and seams. Remove loose dirt according to the relevant care instructions and let every component dry. Keep a successful combination as a reference for future purchases. The next jacket comparison then has a clear glove and midlayer arrangement to accommodate.
